USA Today recently broke the following news:
As spring rounded into the biggest summer of his 19-year-old life, Michael Phelps took a photo with his cell phone of what he really wants. That way he could see it at the touch of a keypad. He could show it around, hear the oohs and aahs. An Olympic gold medal? No. Seven Olympic gold medals? Guess again.
"It's a 1-month-old English bulldog," he says after pulling up the photo with the grinning expectancy of a child in a toy store aisle. "I love bulldogs. It's a big dog, but it's a little dog, too. You know what I mean?"
Hell yes! I knew this guy was all class. Phelps, My bully, Howie, sends a shout out to you and yours. Keep kicking ass in China!
After 75 years, the bulldog makes it way back into the American Kennel Club's Top 10 List, pushing out the Miniature Schnauzer (how that breed ever bested the English Bulldog is beyond me!?!?!).
The Bulldog was first recognized by the AKC in 1886 – just two years after the organization’s founding – and was most popular in 1915 when it peaked in 5th place. The breed’s popularity ebbed and flowed throughout the mid-20th century, but since hitting a low of 41st place in 1973, its ranking has steadily increased.

New video of Howie. His best friend Vuz shot this footage while dog sitting for me last weekend. He was trying to wake the lil monster up at 5am. LOL! GOOD LUCK!
Actually, the below photos are not that new. I took these while stuck in line at the US Border when I was traveling back from Montreal with Cindy. However, since I took this entire month off from blogging, I had not uploaded them to Howie's Myspace Page or this blog. Enjoy!
Howie has pulled his fare share of gorgeous women in Boston(or wherever he goes for that matter). However, this afternoon he established his personal best by wooing Elaine Irwin Mellencamp at the Four Seasons in Boston. We ran into her and her two sons (Hud and Spec) after having brunch with Cindy and Lorelle. John Mellencamp was also with her, however he walked on a bit as to not draw too much attention to himself.
To be honest, I did not know exactly who she was when we met. Both Lorelle and I thought she was some famous model but could not place her face. John Mellencamp did not stop so we only saw his back. Having gained a few pounds and looking a bit disheveled (t-shirt tucked into a pair of sweat pants), he was not that recognizable. Indeed, we all thought to ourselves..."what the hell is she do with that guy??" It was Cindy who pointed out it was the Mellencamps and informed us that he was performing tonight at the Boston Esplanade during the Fourth of July celebration.
Elaine, Hud and Spec were all very polite and gracious as they doted over Howie. No doubt this was a very cool experience for Cindy, Lorelle and I. Howie , on the other hand, regarded them as just some more needy fans :) .
Some of you know that I recently created a MySpace page for Howie. In that effort, I have uploaded several vidoes of when he was a puppuy (8 weeks old in fact!). I have decided to create a post here that lists the footage that I have put online to date. Enjoy!
