I have recently decided to pick up the sport of camping and hiking. To that end, I have procured some essential gear.
Weekend Camping
For weekend camping trips (1-2 nights), I have opted to buy gear that qualifies as Ultra-Light.
Tent: MSR Hubba Hubba Tent
Winner of a 2005 Backpacker magazine Editors’ Choice Award, the 2-person Hubba Hubba doesn’t compromise on internal space to save weight. This freestanding, superlight tent (only weighs around 4 lbs! ) features lots of elbow room, 3 setup options, 2 doors and vestibules, and no-drip entries that keep the inside dry even with the vestibules open.
Pack: Osprey Atmos 50
Winner of a 2005 Outside magazine's "The Gear of the Year" Award, the Osprey Atmos 50 is one of the most carefully designed packs on the market, this lightweight pack (2lbs 13 oz) is for fastpacking.
Daypacking/Hiking
For simple day hikes, I was less deliberate in the technical specifications of my gear. I will admit that this purchase was made solely on the fact that I think the Arc'Teryx brand is bad ass!
Pack: ARC'TERYX Spear 20 Pack
The Spear 20 easily transitions through track, trail and road. Hydration bladder compatibility keeps the fluids flowing, a CD sleeve stores the desired soundtrack and multiple stash pockets organize your clutter.
